Mary Mackillop is Australia’s first Patron Saint and the founder of the Order of the Sisters of St Joseph. The Sisters have always had a practical and forthright approach to issues of education and social justice, inspired by the original sayings of Mary.
We used these words and sayings and juxtaposed them against images of modern life to show just how relevant these words still were. An intimate theatre in the round is narrated by Caroline Jones and a student from Wesley College in Melbourne voicing the young Mary Mackillop.
Several other multimedia pieces were completed for the Centre, including re-recording 19th century playground rhymes with young actors from Sydney’s Brent St Theatre.
